Hauppauge Model 1609 problems

I built a new SageTV server with the Hauppauge Model 1609 Quad ATSC tuner.
When I attempt to configure the tuner, I receive a message as follows:
There was a Capture Error in Playback. Details:

ERROR (-40x80004005) There was a problem using the capture device. Please be sure you have the latest drivers installed for your capture device, and that they are installed correctly.

I have tested the capture card with WinTV10 and subsequently uninstalled that application leaving the drivers. The card shows to be running properly in the device manager using the Hauppauge drivers.

I disabled the Windows camera function thinking maybe the camera application was holding the tuner?

Anyway, I enabled the native logs:

What type of signal are you trying to watch? OTA antenna, cable TV, etc???

I see references to both ATSC and QAM in the logs, so I am unsure.

OTA ATSC broadcasts only.

Interesting development. So I created a Virtual machine for Windows 10 using VMWare Player and connected the Removable device (Hauppauge quad tuner PCie) to the VM. This works!!! (Basically I have a Windows 11 PC running Windows 10 VM.)

Must be something with Windows 11 blocking SageTV from using the Quad Tuner.

I ordered a USB Hauppauge tuner to see if that will work with Windows 11.

So that stopped working once I applied all the updates for Windows 10. Same issue as with Windows 11.

Back to the drawing board. Maybe I will poke around in the code to see if I can capture/debug the exact issue.

You have done a channel scan right?

Does Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD ATSC Tuner-0-ATSC.frq exist?

I installed the card on another PC that I have at my house that is running Windows 10 for testing. SageTV is able to use the card and perform a channel scan properly. I can watch live TV using the capture card.

Then after a reboot, SageTV can no longer use the card and displays the same error.

This problem must be a problem with the driver I am guessing?

So I installed an older ATI HD650 tuner card and that works flawlessly, even after a reboot. The problem is that the ATI HD650 tuner card is a PCI card and my new machine only has PCIe.

I am planning to contact Hauppauge to see if they have a newer driver. What I also noticed is the Model 1609 PCIe tuner card adds a USB device.

I'm not familiar with that tuner, and I don't know about Win 11, but are you using the Win 10 driver from here?
https://www.hauppauge.com/pages/supp...ort.html#win10

Is it the WinTV-quadHD PCIe?

There were some additional troubleshooting comments here:

I tried the driver from that page and it does not detect the WinTV-QUAD PCIe card. What I did was install the WinTV application that installs the drivers.

The card works with the WinTV application all the time, just not SageTV.

I did check the settings to allow apps to access the camera and that is enabled.

The WinTV-quadHD Model 1609 PCIe card seems to be a USB interface that plugs into the PCIe bus that is a 955D tuner.

I guess it's probably too late for this, but if you could find an HDHomeRun HDHR5-4US on Ebay, I'd say go for it. Once I went to network tuners I never looked back.

What ver of Windows 11 ?.
Did you install the codec pack like K-Lite or LAV filter first
In the Sage.properties file that controls whether or not Sage records to .ts or .mpg files is: mmc/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream
By default it is set to true change it to false for ts steam

I am open to any ideas you guys might have.

Thanks,
Michael
I gave up on using this tuner. I can get it to run properly, but it gives me issues after a while. I get the same weird behavior if I run 2 dual tuners. Basically, it just disappears. I don't really need it any more since the last repack, not that many channels to tune.

I also gave up on the that tuner as well and purchased a used Hauppauge 2250 dual tuner and the HDHomerun quad tuner.

Windows 11 sees the 2250, but I cannot ever get SageTV to see the tuners, so I downgraded my OS to Windows 10 Pro and now the 2250 works as it should.

Now for the HDHomeRun tuning capabilities, I find it is not as good as a tuner as the Hauppague tuners. The 2250 tunes more channels and seems to have a much better signal.

That seems odd that the HDHR can't tune as well, but I have no experience with the Hauppauge OTA tuners. Did you try switching COAX from the Hauppauge to the HDHR and see if the results are any different?

Although it was a number of years ago, there was a point in time that I was running both Hauppauge and HDHomeRun tuners. I would agree with your assessment, the Hauppauge tuners seemed to provide better/more consistent PQ than the HDHomeRun tuners. However, the network tuner capabilities of the HDHomeRun outweighed the Hauppauge benefits, so I completely switched over to HDHRs.
