Exclamation EPG Server Data

There's been many questions about what's going to happen with EPG data when SageTV goes open source. Here's the deal:

1. There is no timeline currently for when we are going to shutdown the SageTV EPG server. The policy on this is the same as before where we will give everyone advance notice before this occurs.

2. As the code is going open source; we need to change some rules regarding how EPG server data is accessed to prevent people who are not licensed SageTV users from accessing it.

3. We will achieve #2 by only allowing EPG data to be downloaded by those that present a valid SageTV license key to the EPG server. Usage of EPG data while in "trial mode" for the SageTV software will no longer be possible. The software has always sent the license key information when it connects to the EPG server, and that function has been left in the open source code.

With the open source version; there will still be a way to tell it what your license key is (even though that won't be needed to run it) so that it will present that key to the EPG server to be allowed to download EPG data.

I plan on implementing this policy shortly after the July 4th holiday is over and will post again here once it is done. If anybody has issues accessing EPG data after the change is made and you do have a valid SageTV license key; please send me a private message with your license key information so I can investigate your individual problem.

The update has been done. Users without license keys should no longer be able to access the SageTV EPG server. If anyone who has a valid license key has an issue; please send me a PM with your license key information.
