The only STV I changed was the one in the above update: SageTV7 version 7.1.9.6, file set 2011110601.

Are you using a different or customized STV?

Glad I had no problems on my 4 Servers. Sorry not sure what to tell you since mine went so well. Just upgraded the last two servers last night.

How do you go about upgrading a WHS add-in installation? I currently use the latest version SageTV WHS add-in on my WHS server with 3 HD300 extenders. I do not use any pc based clients. I have upgraded (using the HD300) to the latest beta firmware. How do I need to go about doing these STV upgrades that are now being offered?

From the extender choose Detailed Setup-Advanced-Check for STV Update. Or just choose the system message that is telling you there is an update and that will update it too. You don't need a PC client.

ok. so I'm an old fuddie that likes the V3 STV over the V7. there doesn't appear to be an update for V3 that fixes the weather data loss. is there some way I can update V3?

I think this plugin may help you with the V3 STV and broken weather,

Question v7.0.23.246 to 7.1.9.6?

Hi.

Sorry to ask this if it has been answered (I looked, didn't see), but what's the proper way to upgrade from an existing 7.0.23.246 installation to the latest 7.1 release?

Thanks!

Go here and download your version. Run. Install/Update over top of your current system.

Always a good idea to do a complete backup of your system first, although I have never had an upgrade go sideways.

I am running STV 7.1.7 and I have downloaded the v7.1.9.exe file. Where can I find the instructions to properly install this update? What do I need to do to backup my old one?

You do not install STV updates by downloading the .exe. What you need to do is go to Setup->Detailed Setup->Advanced and then click on "Check for STV Update". That will automatically download and install the update. If you are more than one version behind you'll have to go through this procedure again since it only applies 1 update at a time. (So just keep doing it until it tells you there are no updates available.)

Edit: The install process will automatically make a backup copy of the old STV.

Just curious.....From what I've seen in this thread the STV updates are only available to install from within SageTV itself using its update feature. I don't see any downloadable links to the latest STV updates.

Is there no other way to manually download and update the STV's after 7.1.9 is installed?

Thanks

Bobby

Not that I'm aware of. Why-what is the issue? Doing it that way keeps track of the versions and will notify you when a new one is available. Similar to v7 plugins-only available thru the Sage Interface. Why try to defeat the mechanism that's in place?

Simple. Google now owns SageTV.

We've seen firsthand that they may at any time exercise their right to shut down any SageTV site or server. (The shutdown of the store without notice stranded many of us without additional licenses and/or extenders needed to complete our systems.)

Looking for ways to download software we've purchased, save it, and re-install from a local copy is just a prudent backup strategy to protect our investment.

Well once you have updated to the latest STV a backup of your Sage directory or a copy of the STV can be kept anyway. Same with any plugins you have running. A backup of your directory should be all you really need. I believe else where in the forums it is documented how to keep the plugins local.

pdessart pretty much sums it up. Though I'm not thinking the plug would get pulled soon. My server is running great and I have a service contract on it for four years on failure including lightning. I back it up fully with clonezilla monthly. It just occurred to me that if the machine does crap out, say in four years and it has to be replaced, it will be all different (new) hardware, meaning complete reload. Thus, I should look into what I may need to have on hand in case sage site is no longer (a lot can happen in four years). So..... I'm trying to collect what bits I may need should I have to put Humpty Dumty back together again on my own. Alone. In the woods. In the dark.
