ComSkip versions later than 82.003

Does anyone know how to get Donator ComSkip versions later than 82.003 working on Windows 8.1 without docker containers or virtual machines? Current version is 82.010, which requires Windows 10.

It's a windows resource dependency.

I don't remember what it is specifically, but I thought it was something that Microsoft wasn't offering on older operating systems anymore.

Easy solution is to just run an older version.

I sent him an email letting him know there were problems with his site and asked about the Win10 only support.
I'll be curious if you get any response, seems like the project is stalled. Though it's up on github.

I've been noticing that lately a lot of the newer "screen bugs" are not tracking and commercial skipping accuracy is getting more erratic. :/ Might be time to educate myself on how it works.

Fails on Extended filenames ...

I noticed that this does not run when using extended file names in SageTV. Is there a work around. ?

The readme file specifies W10 only.

How many detection jobs at one time?

I am a long-time user of the donator version of comskip, but always kept the "detection jobs to run at the same time" parameter to 2. Back in the day, my processor just wasn't gutsy enough to handle more.

Fast forward 3 server upgrades, now running the latest I5 processor, it is time to bump that up to better cope with my 6 tuners and our family's insatiable quest for content.

How many jobs do you allow at once?

I run a i7-6700 with 16gb RAM. This machine also hosts my CQC automation server and a virtual machine running PBX in a Box. I currently have it set to 3. I have turned it up farther (I think I had 6 instances at one point recently), but that was causing the machine to run much too close to 100% CPU usage for my tastes when they were all running. I believe I see about 40-50% usage when all 3 are running.

I also don't let it run during "live" TV. I wish I could, running it live uses just as many resources but for the entire length of the show vs running a scan that take a short period of time.

What version of Java do you have installed? Outdated versions of Java are a common reason for plugins failing to download.

Thumbs up

[QUOTE=tmiranda;439753]CommercialDetector is a SageTV7 plugin that automatically launches comskip after a show has recorded. It produces .edl files that can be read by the Comskip Playback plugin (which is automatically installed for you.)

@tmiranda
thank you so very much for CommercialDetector plugin in SageTV7
my PC that had Sage server on it died, bought all new hardware and I am in the process of getting SageTV server set back up.

For those that need to install the CommercialDetector plugin in SageTV7
see post number 1

Thank you again for this Great plugin

I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Comskip from Feb 2022 and after confirming Sage is using these new files, it's doing a great job on all my *.mpg recordings from over-the-air HDHomerun, but it doesn't appear to detect any commercials on my TVE recordings *.ts coming from Channels DVR.

When I donated to comskip initially, there was a special repository for donator version downloads, and the donator version was required for h.264 files as I recall. Is this still the case, and would that have anything to do with no comskip results on TVE files?

I have 4 live recordings going, Sage is reporting comskip running on all 4, and there are 4 comskip processes running on the server. Just no detected commercials.

EDIT: Yeah, that was it, needed the donators version for the h.264. Was probably time for another donation anyways.
